September 1933Laurie Baker (‘Com’) and Michael Jerrom (‘Skipper’) started the 24th Hastings (Grammar School) Troop.
November 27th 1933The Troop was formally invested. Three Patrols formed: Ravens, Swifts and Otters
Whitsun 1934First camp at Humphrey’s Farm, Guestling
July 1934First summer camp: two weeks at Shopham Bridge, Petworth
December 1934First Troop Concert
June 1935Fourth Patrol: Lions
Spring 1936Fifth Patrol: Bulldogs
January 1937First Pantomime (‘Robinson Crusoe’)
April 1937First King’s Scouts attended Windsor Parade.
Summer 1937Seniors began meetings unoffically.
Spring 1938First sailing boat: “Why Worry” at Rye Harbour.
September 1938Second sailing boat “Pelican”. Ronald Byrom (‘Bish’) and Harold Bowmer (‘Cox’n’) joined.
August 1939Troop helped evacuees from London and acted as messengers. Scouts continued through the blackout. Paper salvage began.
21st July 1940School was evacuated to St. Albans. Camping continued throughout the war in camouflaged tents. Sixth & seventh Patrols: Seagulls and Eagles
6th November 1944The Troop meetings began again in Hastings.
May 1945Eighth Patrol: Badgers. 66 Scouts and 9 Seniors in the Troop.
September 1946Tommy Cookson (‘Cookie’) joined.
30th June 1947First Senior Scouts officially invested.
23rd October 195024th Hastings Rover Crew was inaugurated.
Summer 1956The Troop won the County Camping Competition
June 1957Group Executive Committee formed
January 1961Last of 27 Troop Shows (‘Dick Whittington’)
March 1961Three Rovers gained the First Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards in Hastings
July 1963Cox’n and Cookie retired. Troop reduced to 4 Patrols: Bulldogs, Lions, Ravens and Swifts
September 1963Dave Thompson joined.
July 1964Com retired. Bish in charge. Seniors’ continental cycle tour.
September 1964The School moved from Nelson Road to Parkstone Road. The Troop occupied its first Scout Hut, by the Copse. Roger Plumb joined
1966Dave became Scout Leader. The Advance Party Report was published. New uniform and training programme phased in. The age range for Scouts was extended to 16th birthday. Seniors and Rovers were replaced by Venture Units for 16 – 20 year-olds
Venture Unit visit to Scandinavia.
1969Formation of Group Supporters’ Association
1973Dave retired. Roger Scout Leader
1977New Scout Hut opened
May 1983First Chief Scout’s Challenge expedition to the Lake District
1984Visit of the Chief Scout, Major-General R. Walsh, to celebrate the Troop’s 50th anniversary
1986Launch of 2nd Troop ‘Gilridge’; ran until 1998
January 1993Cub Pack started
November 1994David Carter Scout Leader
September 1999Group moved into new building. Beaver section started. Neil Mackrell Scout Leader (until 2002)
2002Venture Units replaced by Explorer Units – no longer section of Scout Group. New training programme and uniform.
