Hallowtree 2025

We arrived on Thursday and was greeted with rain! Tents and marquees going up in the wet wasn’t fun but soon as that was done and we all dried off we finished setting up then had beef ragu for dinner. The next day we finished setting up camp, organising the dry stores, setting up the patrol kitchen areas and collecting wood for the cooking. After an early dinner we had an evening of Climbing, Abseiling and Crate stacking run by the camp activity team. During the rest of the weekend we went to Alton water and took part in some Raft building and Sailing and also cooked roast chicken and trimmings on an open fire! Weather too was beginning to settle down mostly with cloud and sunny spells.

During the rest of the week we went to Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, where the scouts named all the birds after leaders, went to Alton water again this time to do the aqua park and then on Wednesday evening went go karting where one of the scouts broke the track barrier by crashing causing us to have a 45minute delay in proceedings whilst it was fixed. Dinners the last few days were beef & Guinness stew, cider sausages and chicken and chorizo paella. On the last day before we stuck camp we took a visit to pleasure wood hills theme park, the scouts highlight of the camp. When we returned it was time to pack up camp, on the last afternoon we had a camp tea, presented the best scout and most improved scout awards and also the winning patrol this year was Foxes. We had the end of camp campfire which is always a tradition now singing camp songs, performing skits and sketches planned by the scouts and this year the wood spoon awards for the most mishaps at camp. We packed up camp and left at 1pm arriving back at the HQ around 4.30pm greeted by welcome arms of parents some scouts tired and dirty but full of memories and stories to tell. Next year we go back to Guernsey. Camp recipes can be found on the website for use at home, who knows who the next Michelin star chefs maybe!!
