Romford 2016

Romford sounds like an unlikely place to find a good camp site, but Hargreaves is a gem. Situated just off the A12, near Hainault, it looks small and unprepossessing when you drive in, but it has hidden depths.

It’s a medium – large campsite in reality, with lovely well-kept camping fields, in a beautiful, natural setting. Woodpeckers and other birds abound.

The weather was mixed, some very warm sunny days, and towards the end of camp, some rainy ones too.

This was a small camp, as we rebuild the Troop, but a happy one; the standards of camping and conduct were good, and the Scouts learnt a lot. As usual, all the main meals were cooked on wood fires by the Patrols, and some very tasty dishes were served up.

The outing to the Science Museum was by Underground train, and the Scouts enjoyed the exhibition of computer games down the years since the very earliest
ones.

At Stubbers Adventure Centre the boys tried 4 x 4 driving, laser tag, paddle boarding and tunnelling. This was a really good day out.

In camp they enjoyed the petrol go-karts, climbing and abseiling, air rifles, archery, low ropes and adventure course.

All in all, a very nice camp.
